Nano Scale Photosynthesis for Power Generation
Submitted by frank on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 15:14.Good news for those who think that machines are getting entirely too good at replacing humans - they've set their sights on the plants as well. Of course, this assumes your definition of "good" includes "misery loves company". A recent nanotechnological breakthrough means that machines could access the most awesome power source available - the sun.

NETANYA, Israel Scientists at the University of Tel Aviv in Israel claim they have found a way to construct efficient photovoltaic cells costing at least a hundred times less than conventional silicon based devices, and with similar or better energy conversion efficiency.
The reactive element in the researchers' patent pending device is genetically engineered proteins using photosynthesis for production of electrical energy.
